Need Extra Support? How Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) Can Help — The Inner Mosaic Can Provide ESA Letters

Not all healing happens with a prescription - or even in a therapy session. Sometimes, it sits with you - and comes  with four legs, a wagging tail, or a soft purr at your side.

If you’ve ever felt like your pet helps you through tough days, you're not imagining things. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are a recognized part of mental health treatment — and at The Inner Mosaic, we can help you get the documentation you need to keep your ESA by your side.

What is an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)?

An Emotional Support Animal is more than just a pet. It’s an animal that provides comfort and emotional support to someone living with a mental health condition, such as:

  • Anxiety or panic disorder

  • Depression

  • PTSD

  • ADHD

Although ESAs and service animals are not legally recognized equally, and ESAs don’t have the same legal access rights as service animals, they still play a powerful role in helping individuals feel grounded, calm, and connected.

Many of our patients at The Inner Mosaic find that their ESA helps with:

  • Reducing symptoms of anxiety or panic

  • Providing motivation and structure during depressive episodes

  • Offering companionship and reducing feelings of isolation

  • Supporting emotional regulation and reducing stress

What Is an ESA Letter — and Why Do You Need One?

An ESA letter is an official document from a licensed mental health professional stating that your animal  is an essential part of your mental health treatment.

An ESA letter can help with:

  • Housing: Legally requesting to live with your ESA in housing that normally doesn’t allow pets (protected under the Fair Housing Act).

  • Travel (sometimes): Some airlines may accept ESA letters — although policies may have changed, and it depends on the carrier.

⚠️ Important Note: ESA letters must come from a legitimate provider — be cautious of online sites offering instant letters without proper evaluation. At The Inner Mosaic, we take a thoughtful, ethical, and thorough approach to ESA evaluations.

How The Inner Mosaic Can Help You Get an ESA Letter

If you're a patient at The Inner Mosaic, we can provide an ESA letter after a thoughtful evaluation to determine if it’s an appropriate and supportive part of your treatment plan.

Here’s what the process looks like:

  1. Schedule an Appointment – We’ll talk through your symptoms, treatment goals, and how your animal supports your mental health.

  2. Assessment – If your provider determines that an ESA would benefit your emotional wellbeing, we can issue a letter in accordance with federal and state guidelines.

  3. Ongoing Support – Our work doesn‘t stop with the letter. We're here to support your holistic  mental health journey, from symptom management to medication to care planning.

We don’t just check boxes — we take time to listen to your story and your needs, and create a care plan that is customized to your journey.

You Deserve Comfort and Support — in Every Form

There’s no shame in needing extra support. Whether it's a dog, a cat, or another animal who brings you comfort or helps you feel safe, that connection is real — and it matters.

If you think an Emotional Support Animal could help you, or if you already have one and need proper documentation, The Inner Mosaic is here for you.
